Soaky Mountain Waterpark breaks ground | $90m attraction set to open in 2020

Wilderness Resorts and Waterparks is building the Soaky Mountain Waterpark in the Smoky Mountain region. The $90m attraction will feature a water coaster, slides, and much more.

On August 6, Wilderness Resorts and Waterparks celebrated the groundbreaking of the 50-acre Soaky Mountain Waterpark.

Located in Sevierville, Tennessee, the $90 million project will include a water coaster, a family ride tower with two five-person raft rides, a tubing tower with five flumes, two high-intensity body slides, and a mat racing challenge.

Other attractions include a a 35,000-square-foot wave pool that can create waves of up to six feet high, a 24,000-square-foot winding wave river, a highly-themed kids’ play-and-spray attraction with multiple slides, and a kid-friendly activity pool.

There will also be an adventure pool with a WIBIT water obstacle course, a double FlowRider, four large slide complexes, and a flat-water cabana pool.

Joe Eck, COO, said: “Soaky Mountain Waterpark is going to be an amazing destination for families with children of all ages to enjoy.

“It will feature some of the most popular, thrilling and unique water attractions available, and it will all be outdoors in a beautiful mountain-modern park setting.”

Soaky Mountain is set to create 500 full-time and part-time jobs, and is expected to attract more than 400,000 annual visitors.

The opening date for the new Soaky Mountain Waterpark is currently scheduled for summer 2020.

Up the road in Santa Claus, Indiana, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari has announced the $7 million Cheetah Chase ride, the world’s first launched water coaster.

Elsewhere, Great Wolf Lodge is building the first UK-based resort near Chesterton and Bicester in Oxfordshire.

After revealing the top 25 theme parks in the world for 2019, TripAdvisor recently confirmed the top 25 water parks, with Siam Park in first place for the sixth year running.
