Leading creator of immersive visitor attractions, Continuum Attractions, has appointed Sue Garland OBE as its new Chairperson.
The announcement follows the retirement of long-serving Chairman John East CBE. Sue Garland assumes the role with immediate effect.
Garland has been a non-executive director of the Continuum Group since 2003. Previous roles include Deputy and Acting CEO of the British Tourist Authority (now VisitBritain). Responsible for policy, strategy and marketing, she was instrumental in championing Britain as a tourist destination to key overseas markets.
Since leaving the tourism agency, Garland has undertaken consultancy assignments focussing on change management, as well as tourism projects.
‘The executive directors, Andrew Pawson and Kev Smith, and all our senior managers, welcome the appointment of the new Chairman,’ stated Juliana Delaney, CEO of the visitor attraction group.
Continuum enjoying ‘tremendous period of growth’
‘Continuum Attractions has had a tremendous period of growth over the past few years and we aim to maintain that performance across our portfolio of Heritage, Icon, Explore and Entertainment sub-brands,” continued Delaney. “With her broad experience and great contacts across the industry, Sue will certainly support and challenge us to do our best.’
Garland is immediate Past Master of the City of London’s Worshipful Company of Marketors and a Town Councillor and former Deputy Mayor of Godmanchester in Cambridgeshire where she lives. She was awarded an OBE for Services to Tourism in the 2001 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Continuum Attractions began life as Heritage Projects Ltd., arguably changing the museum game when it opened The Jorvik Viking Centre in 1984. Since then, it has evolved into a leading provider of commercially successful, immersive visitor experiences, including the Emmerdale Studio Experience and the Royal Mint Experience. Earlier this year, the company collaborated with THE VOID on the limited-run Star Wars – Secrets of the Empire hyper-reality experience.
