Super League Gaming and Wanda Media to host esports events in China

Super League Gaming, the global leader in competitive amateur gaming, has partnered with Wanda Cinemas Games, a subsidiary of Chinese media conglomerate Wanda Media, to host esports events in China.

The new alliance will involve the launch of live, competitive and unique gaming experiences created by Super League at more than 700 theatres across China, owned and operated by Wanda.

Wanda’s local movie theatres in China will be transformed into esports venues hosting live Super League events and tournaments.

According to a press release, the project expands Super League Gaming’s global footprint and puts Wanda venues at the centre of the global esports phenomena, with 1.2 billion gamers worldwide.

“Joining forces with Wanda, the world’s biggest entertainment provider, to bring quality play, events, and content to those passionate players transforms the size of our servable market.

“We are honored to be partnered with Wanda as we bring Super League to the Asian market.”

Super League previously announced a partnership with ggCircuit, the operator of more than 700 gaming centres worldwide.

“Our partnership with Super League will bring a new theater and esports experience to the millions of Chinese esports fans and players,” said Jian Huang, CEO of Wanda Cinemas Games.

“We are looking forward to closely cooperating with Super League to create and perfect this new venture into the China market.”

Comcast NBCUniversal’s new SportsTech accelerator

Meanwhile, Comcast NBCUniversal has announced the launch of SportsTech, a global accelerator for sports technology startups.

Kicking off in August 2020, SportsTech is designed to provide sports tech startups with the necessary resources and relationships to succeed during a three-month programme.

Initial focus areas include media and entertainment, fan and player engagement, athlete and player performance, sports venue and event innovation, and esports.

Previously, Millennial Esports announced plans to create the world’s first dedicated esports racing arena in Miami. Comcast Spectacor and the Cordish Companies have also broken ground on Fusion Arena, the western hemisphere’s largest ground-up, purpose-built esports arena.
