Super Nintendo World construction starts at Universal Studios Hollywood

Super Nintendo World construction has kicked off at Universal Studios Hollywood, as first-look images of the Nintendo-themed expansion have surfaced online.

The construction images come via Universal Core on Twitter, who wrote alongside one snap: “Yoshi’s shop? facade set pieces at #UniversalStudiosHollywood for Super Nintendo World.”

In addition, a mountain facade has been erected in Hollywood, with Universal Core writing: “It is being assembled at Falls Lake.”

Another image depicts set design fabrication being assembled, as well as Bowser’s Castle, which are both visible from the ET parking structure.

Set pieces for Bowser’s Castle, which are apparently duplicated from Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan, are seen in a separate photo.

Super Nintendo World will feature a state-of-the-art Yoshi’s Adventure and Mario Kart rides, shops and a restaurant, and Bowser’s Castle and Peach’s Castle.

Universal Studios Japan will be the first Universal theme park to feature Super Nintendo World, followed by expansions in Hollywood, Orlando and Singapore.

Super Nintendo World at USJ was originally set to open in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but its launch was delayed by “a few months” due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

That said, it’s possible USJ will postpone the launch until much later this year or even 2021.

Super Nintendo World was set to open as part of Universal’s Epic Universe in 2023. However, Comcast previously confirmed that construction work on Epic Universe had been paused, which is likely to delay the launch of the Nintendo destination.

Earlier this month, fans seemingly got a closer look at Super Nintendo World at USJ, as videos and images of the official website and its attractions leaked online.

Prior to that, detailed footage of Super Nintendo World at USJ emerged online, unveiling a closer look at attractions including Bowser’s Castle and Yoshi.
