Taronga Zoo has released images and information about its new luxury eco-retreat, Wildlife Retreat at Taronga. The accommodation overlooks Sydney Harbour and offers a unique sleepover experience.
The Wildlife Retreat, which contributes to Taronga Zoo’s ongoing animal conservation programmes, gives guests the chance to immerse themselves in their surroundings.
Visitors will wake up to the sound of bandicoots and lyrebirds, before stepping out of their rooms to the sanctuary and surrounding bushland.
Designed by Cox Architecture, the Wildlife Retreat will boast five environmentally-sensitive, sustainably-designed lodges with 62 rooms overlooking koalas, echidnas and platypus.
Contributing to Taronga Zoo’s animal conservation
“For a zoo to remain relevant, it must constantly evolve,” said Cameron Kerr, CEO of Taronga Zoo. “Our new Wildlife Retreat at Taronga will deliver truly unique experiences to the people of Sydney, NSW, Australia and our international visitors.
“Through the Wildlife Retreat, we will foster genuine connections between people and Australia’s fascinating wildlife, and inspire them to care as passionately as we do about our most precious residents.

The new accommodation will also include a restaurant, Me-Gal, featuring Australian menus, fresh local produce and native ingredients.
Wildlife Retreat, owned and operated by Taronga Conservation Society Australia, will contribute funding towards conservation, education, and caring for Taronga’s animals.
As part of their stay, guests will get a two-course dinner, buffet breakfast, immersive and exclusive animal experiences, and free entry to Taronga Zoo.

The Wildlife Retreat at Taronga opens on October 10. Taronga Zoo also offers safari-style accommodation with Roar and Snore.
Elsewhere, Chester Zoo is planning a new attraction for 2022, which will include accommodation such as fisherman’s lodges and safari-style tents.
