The opening of Tyra Banks’ beauty theme park ModelLand has been postponed in response to the global coronavirus pandemic. It was previously set to open at Macerich’s Santa Monica Place in Santa Monica on May 1.

The statement posted to Twitter reads: “In light of the recommendations and guidance of federal, state, and local government officials, and of experts from WHO and other organizations, we have decided to postpone the opening of ModelLand.”

America’s Next Top Model‘s Tyra Banks announced the theme park in 2019. ModelLand will feature interactive entertainment, as well as curated retail, dining and special events.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and determine a new date to open that is appropriate and safe,” adds the statement.

ModelLand to open when “appropriate and safe”

“ModelLand has been in the making for more than 10 years and we remain excited to bring our wondrous world to you and will wait to welcome you to our attraction when the time is right.

“During this uncertain time, please take care of yourselves. Find ways to connect with your loved ones digitally and utilize this time to organize and prepare for the unexpected.

“We will see you on the other side of this!”

ModelLand features a personalised digital look-book, an immersive theatre where guests are part of the show, and access to shop the ModelLand experiential closets.

In addition, there will be professional photography moments designed by Tyra, posing tips and tricks, and custom lighting that compliments skin tone and features.

Coronavirus has resulted in the closure of various attractions, including Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Orlando Resort, Six Flags and SeaWorld.

Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris have also temporarily closed in light of COVID-19. Disney previously closed theme parks in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
