Universal Studios Japan is reported to be about to delay the opening of Super Nintendo World.

The eagerly anticipated attraction themed around video games was originally meant to open in Spring 2020 to coincide with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In Comcast’s Q1 earnings call, a delay of “a few months” was discussed.

Over the last 48 hours there have been numerous stories that USJ is about to announce the postponement of the opening of Super Nintendo World until much later this year or even 2021 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The Japan Times reports that Universal is expected to make a formal announcement this week.

Excitement about the new land has been building, with photos online last month showing Bowser’s Castle and other features of the Nintendo themed land.

Super Nintendo World promises to deliver a new level of theme park interactivity via Power Up Bands. These wearable technology wristbands will create interactive experiences, competiton and allow visitors to collect digital coins by touching the iconic Nintendo Question Blocks.

One interactive feature will be the Question Blocks seen in the images above, which Power Up Band users can touch to collect coins.

Super Nintendo Worlds are expected to feature in Epic Universe at Universal Orlando’s resort, as well as at Universal Singapore and Universal Hollywood.
