Walmart’s renovation project includes the Spark Café and Walton’s 5&10.

Walmart has revealed that its museum in Bentonville, Arkansas is moving to a temporary home while the building and visitor experience is renovated through spring 2024.

From 1 November, the Walmart Museum will close to undergo an extensive renovation. The project includes the Spark Café and Walton’s 5&10, Walmart founder Sam Walton’s second store in Bentonville, but the first to feature the Walton name.

The renovated and reinvented Walmart Museum will be more inclusive, accessible and interactive. It will offer larger exhibit space, new educational areas and an improved rooftop patio.

“Throughout Walmart’s 60-year history, our associates have worked to continuously reinvent retail and how we deliver on our promise to save people money so they can live better,” the retail corporation said in a news release.

“And reinvention has also been a big part of how we tell the story of Walmart.”

Walmart’s culture, history and brand

First opened in 1990 as the Walmart Visitor Center, the attraction is home to exhibits and artifacts that explore Walmart’s culture, history and brand.

During the renovation, the Walmart Museum will relocate to its temporary home at The Ledger. Located in the lobby, the museum will offer a “unique and curated experience”.

In addition, the new Spark Café ice cream truck will be available on the Bentonville Square this winter.

Elsewhere, the CIA has renovated its top secret museum inside in the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia – but the institution’s doors remain closed to the public.

Designed to “instruct and inform generations of officers”, the museum’s collection was renovated to mark the Central Intelligence Agency’s 75th anniversary.
