new 8 lane racer water ride from wiegand.waterrides

wiegand.waterrides GmbH, a leading water rides and attraction provider, has built the world’s first stainless steel eight-lane Mat Racer water slide.

wiegand.waterrides’ new water slide is a highlight of the new OCT Group water park in Xiangyang, China. OCT has 60 theme parks and water parks in Asia, making it the largest group in the industry in Asia.

An exciting new water ride

The new slide is 15 metres tall. Each lane is 120 metres long and has an average gradient of 15%. Riders slide down these lanes head-first on mats, racing the other riders in a parallel race. They go through a 360° helix and several waves, reaching a maximum speed of 11m/s.

wiegand.waterrides has supplied similar racer slides in Germany, although with fewer lanes. They can be found at the Badeparadies Titisee, Black Forest, or the world’s largest indoor waterpark, Therme Erding near Munich.

Three more water rides in Xiangyang

The new water park in Xiangyang opened on June 26 2020. As well as the multi-lane slide, wiegand.waterrides also supplied a 20-metre long family tumble wave slide and two ‘Cannonball’ attractions to the water park.

These two ‘Cannonball’ slides use water pressure to catapult the rider several metres into the air. The rider then lands in the water around 14 feet away. They are the first two catapult slides in China.

China is an important market

The managing director of wiegand.waterrides, Hendrik Wiegand said “We are very proud to be part of this gigantic project and to have built one of the water park’s largest slide attractions. It is also the first stainless steel racer slide in China. China is and remains an important market for us. Quality from Germany is very appreciated there”.

There are multiple benefits of using stainless steel for slides. It is sustainable, low maintenance, and allows the slides to be welded without joints.

Depending on the customer, wiegand.waterrides slides are individually handcrafted in Germany.

wiegand.waterrides started working with OCT Group in 2009, and is now working on a new indoor water park with the company.

Earlier this year, wiegand.waterrides’ first SlideWheel in Europe was opened in Aquapark Reda in Poland. This water ride combines the fun of a Ferris wheel with the thrill of a waterslide.
