World Expos: USA Pavilion and USC US-China Institute Call for Student Ambassadors to Shanghai World Expo 2010

News

The USA National Pavilion at the World Expo Shanghai 2010 and the University of Southern California’s U.S.-China Institute have joined forces to recruit Student Ambassadors to serve as guides and national representatives for the United States at next year’s World Expo in Shanghai.

160 students will be selected to work with the millions of visitors and assist with the hundreds of talks, screenings, panel discussions and performances that will be offered at the USA Pavilion. Though the students selected for the program will not be paid, the USA Pavilion will provide student ambassadors with training, airfare, housing, and a stipend to cover meals and local transportation. Student ambassadors will serve in Shanghai from April 15 to July 31 or July 15 to October 31, 2010.

“The 2010 Shanghai Expo will be the biggest-ever gathering of world cultures. The USA Pavilion at the Expo will present a dynamic, emotional story that radiates powerful core values shared by both the Chinese and American people – sustainability, teamwork, health and opportunity. We are excited to invite American students to seize this opportunity and become an important participant in what is sure to be one of the most spectacular events in human history, ” said Nick Winslow, President of the USA Pavilion operating entity.

Clayton Dube, USC U.S.-China Institute associate director said, “Apart from global exposure, this program offers American students an educational experience as organizations and businesses showcase their research and technological innovations. They can also gain invaluable experience living and working in China and great preparation for those interested in international relations, economic development and business.”

The USC US-China Institute and the USA Pavilion are committed to recruiting a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students. Those from all disciplines, backgrounds, and regions are encouraged to apply.

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo will be held from May 1 through October 31, 2010.  It is expected that some 70 million people will attend, 95% of whom will be from Mainland China. This will be the first time China has hosted a World Expo, and more than 190 nations have already committed to participate.

At over 60, 000 square feet (6, 000 square meters), the USA National Pavilion will be one of the largest national pavilions at the Expo. It will showcase American culture, values, innovation and business in China’s most dynamic city, while celebrating the friendship and cooperation between the U.S. and China.
