Zoological Association of America

The Zoological Association of America is a non-profit wildlife organisation dedicated to responsible wildlife management, conservation & education.

The Zoological Association of America (ZAA) is one of the largest non-profit wildlife organisations in the country dedicated to responsible wildlife management, conservation, and education.

Established in 2005, the ZAA is a result of members from two organisations, the International Society of Zooculturists (ISZ) and the United Zoological Association (UZA). Together they aim to promote responsible ownership, management, conservation, and propagation of animals both in private and public facilities through professional standards in husbandry, animal care, safety, and ethics.

The Zoological Association of America has more than sixty accredited members with exotic wildlife facilities ranging in size from 2 to 1,800 acres, each with 10 to 8,000 animals in their care. It is a unique membership organisation, comprised of public and private facilities of wildlife educators, rescue facilities, TV and film industry animal experts, wildlife preserves, small community zoos, large zoological facilities, and conservation organisations.

Animal welfare, conservation & education

As part of its core mission, ZAA accredits professional zoological facilities and upholds the highest level of professional standards in animal welfare, safety, and ethics. It also prides itself on not being exclusive when it comes to caring for wild animals by welcoming exotic wildlife facilities and members to join and improve animal care and welfare.

Members and accredited facilities of the Zoological Association of America make significant contributions to global conservation through reintroduction programs, rescue efforts, and rehabilitation work around the world. In addition, ZAA organisations provide education programming designed to help the public connect with wildlife and understand the vital importance of conservation.

ZAA has recently embarked on an exciting new strategic plan for the organisation, strengthening its efforts for its members in animal management programs, animal care and welfare, legislative efforts, marketing and PR, education programs, professional development, crisis management, and more.
