Speakers include experts from some of the world’s leading zoos and aquariums

IAC-2022

The 11th International Aquarium Congress (IAC) will take place from 30 October to 4 November 2022 at Nausicaá in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France. IAC will be a hybrid event for 2022, meaning that guests who can’t attend in person will be able to take part online. The virtual meeting will be held concurrently, with the same content.

“IAC 2022 is a unique opportunity for aquariums to share best practice and present their common priorities, discuss the societal impact of the activities and analyse the solutions they propose,” says Christophe Sirugue, general director of Nausicaá. “The organisation is ready to provide you with a rich and diverse congress.”

A packed agenda

The programme, which can be viewed here, will include expert keynote speakers as well as a variety of presentations. The theme for this year’s event is: ‘Aquariums: engaged and active on behalf of the blue planet’. Meanwhile, the secondary themes for IAC 2022 are as follows:

  • Technological developments
  • Reproduction
  • Animal care
  • Conservation
  • Scenographic design and production of cultural and scientific content
  • Education, raising awareness, mobilisation
  • The role of aquariums in society
  • Adapting to a global pandemic situation

While the keynote speaker programme is still being finalised, the organisers received a very positive response to its call for presentation abstracts earlier this year. The agenda will feature over 90 different sessions, exploring topics within the overall theme and secondary themes.

Speakers include professionals from some of the world’s leading zoos and aquariums, such as Bristol Zoo, the Horniman Museum and Gardens, Budapest Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Georgia Aquarium, The Living Planet Aquarium, SEA LIFE Sydney, the Aquarium of Naples, Planet Ocean Montpellier, Monterey Bay Aquarium and many more.

Registration to attend IAC 2022 in person is now closed, with a waiting list. Those wishing to register and attend virtually can sign up here. The virtual congress platform provides access to all live and recorded presentations on the programme and also allows virtual attendees to visit the exhibitors’ stands. An app for smartphones and tablets will also be available, with polling and chat functionalities.
