An original character design captivated attendees at the international trade show

Rainbow Productions, a leading character events company and mascot manufacturer, is celebrating an award win at a recent international trade show held in London, UK.

The UK company’s production manager, Crispin Lowrey, won this year’s Kelvyn Gardner License This! Competition in the Brand & Design Category at Brand Licensing Europe 2022, as the creator of the Spookysaurus brand.

“The Spookysaurus is a spectral, glittery green being that can shrink to the size of a whisper, travel at the speed of thought and puts the ‘present’ in omnipresent,” says Lowrey. “Initially drawn to Earth by the delicious smell of fear (its favourite food) from the dinosaurs, it stayed here to protect humans from their fears and all the things that go bump in the night.”

Targeted at children aged between 5 and 9, Spookysaurus is designed to be a simple concept which will be expanded with additional stories to be created by Lowrey. He is currently working on his first fantasy chapter book, Spookysaurus and the Boy with no Fear!, set to be released soon.

Opportunities ahead

Each year the License This! competition presents new creative concepts to prospective clients which show potential to spread across multiple product categories. The scheme offers IP holders and designers an exclusive opportunity to break into the global licensing industry.

“When Simon Foulkes, my boss at Rainbow Productions, suggested I should enter Spookysaurus into the License This! competition, it was a huge compliment,” says Crispin. “To be a finalist on the License This! Stage was crazy, and to have won is unbelievable. I cannot wait to see how the opportunities will grow for Spookysaurus as a brand.”

Rainbow Productions recently showcased a range of characters at IAAPA Expo Europe. The amusement industry event was also held at ExCeL London this month and welcomed over 11,000 registered attendees.
