Extreme Engineering, a leading adventure attractions company, received top industry honours last week at IAAPA Expo 2022 in Orlando, Florida.
The annual IAAPA Brass Ring Awards were presented on Tuesday 16 November at Orange County Convention Center, with the Extreme Engineering team receiving two and a key personnel member recognised for their work with IAAPA. The firm’s trophy cabinet now totals 18 worldwide industry awards over its 26 years of exhibiting at the event.
Parkour Around
One of the booth’s highlights, Parkour Around, won 1st place in Best New Product Concept Award.
The revolutionary Parkour Around attraction immerses visitors in an athletic experience that transports them to the action of a video game. Extreme Engineering’s unique patent-pending assist system merges cutting-edge technology and video game character powers with real human skills and excitement, providing practically endless pleasure for guests of all ages and abilities. Parkour Around is now available for client purchase, with delivery dates in 2023.
Flex Shade
The patent-pending Flex Shade, which won 1st place in the Services, Equipment, and Supplies category, was created to give a high-quality solution for outdoor parks, attractions, and recreation places that want to provide shade from direct sunshine to their visitors.
Using its proprietary flex pole technology, Extreme Engineering‘s design requires a fraction of the support structure required to suspend the shade. Flex Shade is post-installable and does not require the huge anchors or pilings used by competitor solutions.
It can be erected above concrete surfaces with as little as six inches of concrete and will not obstruct sightlines of theming, facades, or surrounding landscaping. The Flex Shade can also endure wind speeds of up to 160 miles per hour, which is equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane.
Meritorious Service Award
Chief development officer Phil Wilson celebrated Extreme Engineering’s win on the tradeshow floor, saying: “We are so excited to bring home two Brass Ring Awards to our team. Earning one is amazing, but to have earned two Brass Rings for our latest product advances means a great deal to each of us.”
Wilson himself was honoured in addition to the Brass Ring Awards by the Extreme Engineering team, presented with the 2022 IAAPA Meritorious Service Award at the IAAPA Expo Leadership Breakfast.
Every year, an IAAPA volunteer who dedicates their time, talent, and knowledge to the Association and other IAAPA members is honoured. Extreme Engineering‘s Wilson has represented the worldwide attractions business through numerous IAAPA committees and events for over ten years.
Wilson has volunteered on twelve IAAPA committees, including the Space Allocation Committee, Membership Committee, North America Advisory Committee, M&S Global Committee, and Investment Committee, and has served on the IAAPA Board of Directors.
Phil has visited IAAPA gatherings all around the world and has spoken at numerous instructional sessions and panels.

Over 36,000 attendees took part in IAAPA Expo this year, with 1,077 exhibiting companies on the trade show floor.
