Legoland Korea on track to open on 5 May as construction completes

To mark the completion of the world’s 10th Legoland attraction, Legoland Korea Resort hosted a commemorative ceremony.

Merlin Entertainments has confirmed that Legoland Korea Resort is on track to open on 5 May 2022, with construction work completed on the new attraction in Chuncheon, South Korea.

To mark the completion of the world’s 10th Legoland attraction, Legoland Korea Resort held a commemorative ceremony ahead of the grand opening on Korea’s Children’s Day.

“As we gear up towards the official grand opening of Legoland Korea Resort, it brings me immense joy to host today’s key handover ceremony and to meet in person everyone who has helped us in this endeavour as well as share our hopes and expectations for the future,” said Nick Varney, Merlin CEO.

The event was also attended by John Jakobsen, chief operating officer for the Legoland Resorts Group, Gangwon Province Governor Choi Moon-soon, and Chuncheon City Mayor Lee Jaesoo.

World’s 10th Legoland attraction

Legoland Korea Resort is the first Legoland to be built on an island. Spread across 28,000 square metres, it includes a Legoland park with 40 rides and attractions and the 154-room Legoland Hotel.

The theme park is home to seven themed areas, which are Brick Street, Bricktopia, Lego Castle, Lego Ninjago World, Pirates Shore, Lego City and Miniland. Rides and attractions include the Dragon Coaster and Driving School.

Elsewhere, Merlin is continuing its expansion across China with plans for a new Legoland in the Fangshan district of Beijing, according to local media reports.

The company is already developing three Legoland attractions in China – Legoland Shanghai ResortLegoland Sichuan Resort, and the world’s largest Legoland resort in Shenzhen.
