Culture 24 Let's Get Real Conference 2020

Date:
Location:
National Army Museum, Royal Hospital Road, London, UK
Culture 24 provides strategic advice and practical support to museums, galleries and other cultural organisations of all shapes and sizes, in all sorts of ways, with audiences at the heart of everything we do. The research and development programme Let’s Get Real was established by Culture 24 in 2010. Let’s Get Real supports arts and heritage people and organisations to become more relevant, resilient and responsive to digital cultural changes. We’ve focused this conference around the findings from the Let’s Get Real 7 collaborative action research on the topic of deepening human connections through digital and values-led practice. How can we use digital tools and channels to make more and deeper connections with people? Where is the sweet spot between digital, people and values, for museums, galleries and other cultural organisations? How can digital help us express and enact our organisations’ values in compelling and relevant ways? How can cultural organisations promote truth and authenticity online? At Culture24’s Let’s Get Real Conference you’ll learn from inspiring speakers working within and beyond the cultural sector to explore these questions and more. Sessions will combine strategic ideas and practical recommendations, equipping you with knowledge, actions and new ways of approaching your digital work. One of the speakers is Oonagh Murphy who will discuss Museums and AI. Murphy will look at how museums can engage with AI in an ethically robust way. Using examples from the National Gallery, The Met and American Museum of Natural History the talk will develop a foundation from which museums can develop ethical, creative, visitor focussed choices. Michael Edson will speak on the dark side of social media. Edson will explore how these platforms exploit audiences, behave unethically and undermine civic values. Are cultural institutions harming visitors by inviting them to join with these institutions on social media? Edson will introduce a number of practical steps that cultural and civil-society organizations can take to try to reap the benefits of 3rd party social media while also protecting their communities and honouring their values. The conference takes place at the National Army Museum in London on 2 March 2020. Get 2 days of CPD back to back: if you book a ticket to the conference, you’ll receive a £40 discount on your ticket to keynote speaker Michael Edson’s Dealing with the dark side of social media workshop, which also takes place at the National Army Museum the following day.
