Additional concepts will extend Wiegand’s slide range for aquatic venues

wiegand.waterrides, a leading water rides and attraction provider, has taken over management of Van Egdom products, establishing a larger company with a combined waterslide industry experience of 90 years.

When family-owned Van Egdom Recreatietechniek B.V. was established in 1965, it initially focussed on filter systems for swimming pools. The market had altered by the time Berend Klaassens acquired the business in 1977, and the company transitioned to the needs of pool operators.

The first water slide created by Van Egdom was only 35 metres long, and built for the Sporthuis Centrum (now Center Parcs Het Meerdal in the Netherlands). Since that time, the firm has carried our 7,500 projects across 55 nations.

wiegand.waterrides owner Hendrik Wiegand says: “Both their classic and latest products combined with the European experience with consideration of all applicable EU standards convinced us. We have been very strong in the field of stainless-steel water slides for 40 years and started building GRP (glass fibre-reinforced plastic) slides 15 years ago.

“We are excited to combine Van Egdom’s long experience with ours and now significantly strengthen our portfolio in this field. Existing Van Egdom customers can count on us when it comes to product care and replacements.”

Transition and innovation

In-depth one-on-one sessions with Van Egdom employees will soon take place, with Wiegand. Waterrides confirming that the firm’s “proven and spectacular concepts will remain alive in the product range of Wiegand”. In future, the slides will be manufactured at wiegand.waterrides‘ existing production facility.

The moulds for long-standing innovative Van Egdom water slide concepts will be retained, including Europe’s unique giant 4-person funnel slide “Cyclone” with a diameter of 19m (57ft); white water rivers with several special features; Cone Water Slide with 2-person slide hoops through several funnels in the slide course; Children’s water play concepts with features including towers and slides; Bowl water slides for 1-person and 2-person tubes; and the Water wave slide with boats for amusement parks.

Existing Van Egdom products will now benefit from the possibilities of Wiegand upgrades, including elaborate GRP patterns such as zebra stripes, themed elements, sound, gaming, LED effects, Wie-Spray water surprises and Wie-Glow blacklight technology

New insulation options are also now available including the sandwich insulation or Wiegand’s new Insuflex flexible insulation
