John Giurini Assistant Director for Public Affairs Getty Museum

John Giurini, assistant director for public affairs at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, has been working at the institution for the past 17 years. He is an expert in strategic communication and branding. Guirini has implemented successful partnerships with corporations including Apple, Bank of America and American Airlines. In response to the pandemic, he brought the museum into the digital age.

An experienced communications professional, Giurini has worked in a variety of industries, with start-up companies to Fortune 100 companies. He is skilled in communications planning, branding, media relations, marketing, digital outreach, non-profit management, consumer products, tourism marketing, crisis communications and event management.

The J. Paul Getty Museum offers programmes of exhibitions, publications, scholarly research and public education. The Getty Center houses European paintings, drawings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts and photography. The Getty Villa in Malibu serves as a museum and educational centre dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome and Etruria. The Getty Villa is home to around 44,000 works of art.

In 2022, the Getty Museum recreated William Blake’s figures in augmented reality (AR) for a digital art experience called ‘United Visions’ at Apple’s new shop in London. “Museums in general, but particularly museums that deal with older art, are going to have to become more creative in terms of how they draw in audiences. AR is a way that younger generations are interacting with their world so you either get on the train or let the train pass you by,” Giurini told Wallpaper.
