Sysco helped realise the technology design for the UAE’s ambitious Norman Foster-designed pavilion for Milan Expo 2015, illustrating their interpretation of the Expo theme Feeding the Planet; Energy for Life.
The design blends the very edge of new digital technologies with traditional theatrical illusions such as Pepper’s Ghost to create an awe- inspiring journey into a 360 theatre at the heart of the pavilion and on to Future Talk; a mind-bending synthesis of illusion, layers of media projection, and real stage objects.
Catastrophic delays to the build phase and infrastructure, illogical access restrictions affecting people as well as materials, and daily conflict between on-site teams and those overseeing the Expo project resulted in a commissioning period reduced from an anticipated 6 weeks to less than 24 hours. In addition, environmental factors within the open pavilion space acting on AV equipment highly sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity contributed to the major challenges of this project.
To mitigate the disastrous consequences of these issues, Sysco performed comprehensive off-site build, demos and testing throughout the project, giving confidence to the client and media teams and cutting down on the time required for installation.
