The Shard

Visitors come to The Shard to see the entirety of London from the viewing levels 310 metres up. But DJW’s AV installation enhances a premium experience that begins at the entrance doors and takes the visitors right through the building.

DJW helps visitors choose their visit timeslot by integrating ticketing information into the AV show system. Clever programming by DJW checks the number of tickets available in each half hour time slot over the next seven days, and updates the display with this every two minutes. And this view is fully integrated and customisable: client staff use a single interface to choose to display up to the minute ticket information; high-resolution video, synchronised across multiple screens to form a (non-scaled) video wall; or use a combination of both.

Video walls at the entrance and welcome level orientate the visitor and give them unusual ways to think of London, and then build anticipation during the lift experiences.

The ceilings of all four lifts spring to life as the lift doors shut, displaying media on video walls that fill the lift ceiling and are reflected down the mirror walls. This creates an immersive experience that meshes with all the lift operational and safety equipment. For ease of maintenance, the media players are all kept back in the control room and the signal sent with fibre optic cable.

All this and more helps the client to consistently deliver a premium experience for more than 13 hours, every day, giving visitors much more than just taking them to the top of a tall building.
