Tourism board is looking for proposals with innovative concepts

Singapore’s tourism board is calling for proposals to develop and operate a new wellness attraction near the Marina Bay Sands resort.

The tender is open to local and international bidders and will run for a period of three months. The closing date for submissions is 4 October.

The new wellness experience would be located at the currently vacant Marina South Coastal site close to Marina Bay Sands on a four-hectare plot of land.

The project is a key element of the Singapore Tourism Board’s strategy to grow wellness tourism, with a focus on immersive wellness experiences.

The Singapore Tourism Board is looking for proposals with innovative concepts that can positively impact physical and mental wellness. These could include therapeutic art, technology-driven experiences and alternative therapies.

Additionally, the attraction must offer wellness-themed events and programming for tourists and locals.

Carrie Kwik, STB’s World Expo and special projects executive director, said: “With the rising demand for more restorative and wellness-related experiences, we believe Singapore is well-placed to be a leading urban wellness destination that prioritises holistic wellbeing.

Growing wellness tourism in Singapore

“The tender marks a significant stride towards realising our wellness ambition as we leverage Singapore’s existing strengths in accessibility, technology and as a strong business hub.

“This wellness attraction will contribute to Singapore’s tourism sector by giving travellers more compelling reasons to extend their stay and spend more in Singapore. Locals will also get to enjoy the wide range of wellness offerings available.”

Immersive wellness is one of blooloop’s top trends for this year. Recent developments in this area include an immersive spa in Texas and brain biohacking at Jumeirah hotels.

Earlier this year at greenloop, Lindsay Madden-Nadeau, senior director of wellness strategy at Red Sea Global, spoke about the use of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in the wellbeing business.
