Rosey Masek is director of animal wellbeing and habitat design at PGAV, a global leader in the planning and design of unique destinations. She was promoted in early 2024 as the company addressed an increasing need to protect the health and safety of zoo and aquarium animals, as well as their keepers, while providing visitors with an engaging and informative experience.
Masek has been part of the PGAV team for 16 years. Passionate about animal welfare, she is committed to the highest levels of care. Her promotion demonstrates her dedication to improving animal welfare, creating enriching environments, and supporting the next generation of designers.
In her role, Masek is responsible for making sure that PGAV designs animal environments that meet the strictest requirements for safety, enrichment and care. She works directly with clients and other animal experts, and also assists in training and developing her PGAV colleagues in best practices.
“I am beyond excited about the opportunity to continue working with our talented team to advance the welfare of the animals through well-designed, enriching habitats. This is an important subject for me, and I will embrace this responsibility wholeheartedly,” Masek said at the time of her appointment.
In addition to her role at PGAV, Rosey Masek attends conferences to expand her knowledge of animals, and is actively involved with the AZA community, including presenting at the 2024 AZA Annual Conference.
“My approach is grounded in empathy, placing the needs of the animals at the forefront. This includes understanding their requirements, collaborating closely with animal care experts, and ensuring an enriching experience for the animals and guests,” says Masek.
