Six Flags Great America in Illinois and Six Flags St. Louis in Missouri are implementing chaperone policies for the summer, starting today (17 July).
At Six Flags Great America and its Hurricane Harbor water park, guests 15 years and younger must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or chaperone who is at least 21 years old.
Through 20 July, the policy will be in place all day. After this, it will be in effect from 5pm to park closing.
Upon entry to the theme park and water park, chaperones must present a valid government-issued photo ID showing their date of birth.
Guests 15 and under must be accompanied
“Chaperones must accompany their party during entry, remain inside the park for the duration of the visit, and be reachable by phone at all times,” Six Flags Great America said.
Unaccompanied guests younger than 15 found within the parks without a chaperone will be “subject to removal”, it added.
As for the chaperone policy at Six Flags St. Louis, the same rules apply to guests aged 15 years and younger.
However, the policy will be in effect from 4pm until park closing, rather than all day.

“The park reserves the right to implement the policy earlier as needed,” Six Flags St. Louis said.
The chaperone policies come after shots were reportedly fired in the parking lot of Six Flags Great America on 7 July (via NBC Chicago). No injuries were reported.
Six Flags and legacy Cedar Fair parks have previously implemented chaperone policies in response to issues such as fights involving teenagers.
Six Flags Great America recently opened Wrath of Rakshasa, the steepest and most inverted dive coaster in the world.
