Paradise Wildlife Park is opening a new Amur tiger habitat featuring a pool deep enough for the tigers to be fully submerged underwater, known as ‘The Land of the Tigers’.
The Land of the Tigers, a bespoke exhibit built from the previous cheetah and lion habitats, will house two of the attraction’s female tigers, Siberia and Aleena. It opens on October 3.
The exhibit was originally set to open at Easter, but Paradise Wildlife Park was forced to close in response to COVID-19, also pausing all on-site operations.
“Although we are sad that we cannot continue the work on the new habitat, we need to put the health and safety of the park, keepers and on-site workers first,” said Paradise Wildlife Park.
New habitat will feature a deep pool for tigers
The unique habitat will feature a pool deep enough for the tigers to be fully submerged underwater. The park has also constructed a new viewing area for visitors to watch as the tigers swim and play.
In addition, the pool will be home to a species of beautiful fish, making it the first mixed species habitat to house a big cat in the UK.
Land of the Tigers is the latest project in the ambitious rebuild plan that Paradise Wildlife Park has planned for the rest of the site.
“We are very excited to be developing our tiger habitat in 2020,” said Paradise Wildlife Park CEO Lynn Whitnall in a previous statement.

“This will be the second brand new habitat in as many years following the success of our Lion Pride Lands,” she added. “Land of the Tigers will bring visitors closer to our beautiful tigers than ever before through the incredible underwater viewing part of the habitat.
“Amur tigers are endangered so we hope for the patter of tiny paws in the years to come to further contribute to the European Breeding Programmes and continue to show our charities contribution to conservation both in the UK and around the world.”
Elsewhere, Topeka Zoo is set to break ground on a multi-million dollar expansion project to build a new home for its giraffes.
