Universal Trials Photo Validation Technology to Beat Queue Lines

Universal Orlando Resort is looking to new technologies, including photo validation, to assist with queue management.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the resort has been testing the latest ‘photo validation technology’ in a bid to cut dedicated queue lines for specific rides.

Guests at one of Universal’s on-site hotels were invited to trial the procedure.

Participants were all holders of a Universal Express Unlimited Pass.

The technology automatically compares the guest’s face with the photo on the pass, allowing riders to quickly move to the loading area.

This particular test was trialled at the Cat in the Hat and the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man rides at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park.

A significant number of rides offer dedicated queues for Express Pass holders, including Skull Island: Reign of Kong at IOA and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster at Universal Studios.

Universal is reportedly considering the photo technology for ‘various applications’.

Other tech approaches to queue management by Universal include a Virtual Line system which will operate with the soon-to-launch Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon attraction at Universal Studios.  This solution had a trial run at that park’s Despicable Me Minion Mayhem show.

Universal’s Volcano Bay, opening May 25, is set to provide guests with wearable tech TapuTapu bracelets that alert them when it is their turn to enjoy the water slides.
