Adventure Pointe theme park has been granted permits to begin construction.
The theme park is the brainchild of Harvey Slusky (right), a cardiologist whose own heart is set on following in his father’s footsteps. His father, Louis Slusky operated two separate Playland parks in Houston and Galveston in the late 1940s.
Texas City officials have granted permission for construction to begin on Adventure Pointe’s Main Street building and the Pirate Ship building.
Other attractions planned for the family friendly theme park include a miniature railroad, go-karts, an outdoor ice skating rink, a pirate ride, a boardwalk and an outdoor entertainment venue with seating for up to 1,200 people.
The development is situated on a 25 acres site near the Tanger Outlet Mall and Lago Mar, a 3,300-acre master-planned community.
Adventure Pointe was originally planned to open in 2015. Blooloop spoke to Slusky in late 2013 about his masterplan for the theme park.
In a statement Nicholas Finan, executive director of management services for the City of Texas City, said, “The city of Texas City is excited for this unique attraction located at the entrance to the city. There will be a difference entering Texas City that you will not see as you move from city to city in other parts of Houston. Dr. Slusky sees that vision and is helping to make Adventure Point, Lago Mar, Texas City and its gateway a special place.”
