The new land features the Mandrill Mayhem coaster and the Mamba Strike and Ostrich Stampede rides.

Chessington World of Adventures has set the opening date of its new £17 million ‘World of Jumanji’ land for 15 May.

The world’s first Jumanji-themed land also boasts the world’s only Jumanji-themed coaster, called Mandrill Mayhem, as well as two more rides – Mamba Strike and Ostrich Stampede.

Inspired by Sony Pictures’ $2 billion film franchise, the upcoming attraction is the single largest investment in Chessington‘s history.

“We look forward to welcoming you to the jungle this spring, as the amazing World of Jumanji opens at Chessington World of Adventures,” said Scott O’Neil, CEO of Merlin Entertainments, in January.

“Families should prepare to be turned upside down… literally, as the first new roller coaster in nearly 20 years at the resort has a twist, turn and flip that will have you holding on to your seat,” he added.

“This is the next level for families wanting to explore the ultimate adventure together.”

Mandrill Mayhem wraps around a huge ‘Jaguar Shrine’ structure, with riders dodging the hazards of the jungle and racing through the treetops.

Guests will be flipped upside down and travel to the summit of the Jaguar Shrine while riding the new coaster – a winged, launch, shuttle attraction with an inversion.

Additionally, World of Jumanji will be home to a maze of pathways based on the famous board game, and themed merchandise and F&B.

Ahead of the launch of the park’s World of Jumanji land, six Jumanji-themed rooms are opening at the Chessington Safari Hotel on 1 April.

Chessington’s owner and operator Merlin Entertainments is working with Sony Pictures to develop new rides, lands and hotel rooms based on Jumanji for its attractions and theme parks.

Italy’s Gardaland, for example, is opening a new Jumanji-themed maze attraction in spring 2023. This comes after the launch of Jumanji – The Adventure, a family-friendly dark ride.
