Sally Dark Rides, a leading creator of immersive attractions, has shared more details about the creation of PortAventura World’s Uncharted dark ride, which is set to open on 17 June.
PortAventura has partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment to open the world’s first ‘dark ride roller coaster’ inspired by the 2022 film Uncharted. The film, which is based on the PlayStation video game franchise by Naughty Dog, was released in early 2022 and brought in over $400 million at the global box office.
The park promises that the new €25 million attraction, which has been created in collaboration with Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, will be a thrilling and immersive experience, with visitors searching for “one of the world’s greatest treasures”. Guests will find the coaster in the park’s Far West land.
The Uncharted Diaries
Building excitement for the opening, Sally Dark Rides shares: “The complex ride system is currently undergoing rigorous safety testing for commissioning. Our experts are on site to ensure the ride experience is everything we dreamt it would be.”
Meanwhile, PortAventura World has been gathering educational interviews with experts and behind the scene videos of the project as it progresses, in order to present the Uncharted Diaries mini-series on YouTube.

Describing the ride, PortAventura says:
“Legend has it that more than 500 years ago, an Aztec treasure was hidden in a place that does not appear on any map. Five centuries later, a discovery by explorers Nathan and Sully uncovers the greatest fortune ever found in the heart of the Far West. But it seems that they’re not the only ones to have found it.
“Go through the secret entrance that accesses Penitence Mountain and step into the darkness. Once inside, your mission is clear: avoid the many traps that protect the gold and get out of there with it.”
Recently, two social media influencers kicked off the countdown to the opening by solving a series of elaborate Uncharted puzzles, alongside their millions of followers on live stream.

The well executed challenge initiated a ride campaign across major cities centres in both France and Spain.

Last year, Volkanu – Quest for the Golden Idol, an interactive 4D dark ride from Sally Dark Rides debuted at the Lost Island Themepark in Waterloo, Iowa and went on to win an IAAPA Brass Ring Award for Best Major Ride or Attraction during IAAPA Expo 2022 in Orlando, Florida.
