Guests will be required to sign a waiver before entering the intense attraction

Terror Roulette, a new interactive horror experience, is coming to the Chicago area for Halloween – and guests will need to sign a waiver before they enter.

Opening on 29 September at The Arboretum of South Barrington, a shopping centre in Illinois, Terror Roulette is a spine-tingling interactive haunt offering personalised scares.

The attraction is designed for fans of the horror genre and is described as more than a traditional haunted house. Each room serves as a twisted roulette wheel, spinning players into different encounters.

Guests will be required to sign a waiver before entering and safe words can be used if the experience becomes unbearable. Due to the “intense nature” of Terror Roulette, participants must be aged 16 or older.

Safe words needed for intense attraction

At the heart of the eerie experience is a villain called ‘The Dealer’ who “presides over a sinister realm of death” and leads a group of “maniacal slayers”.

Additional creepy characters include:

  • Sotto Voce, a terrifying former circus clown “who promises his victims he will have the last laugh”
  • Shari, a young girl who “can’t let go of her new friends, even if she has to kill them to make them stay with her”
  • The Baltic Butcher, a man who serves meat that’s “moving, fighting and screaming”

Groups of up to eight people can take part, but they may be separated and reshuffled. The Dealer will assign personalised playing cards to each guest, which will define their unique paths through a deadly world.

“Terror Roulette has been designed for horror genre enthusiasts seeking out a personal, immersive experience that combines adrenaline, suspense and practical horrors,” said Jeffrey Holmes of IWG Productions.

“This limited-time experience will push guests to their limit as our characters focus 100 percent of their attention on the guest.”

Terror Roulette is the brainchild of award-winning haunt expert Scott Swenson. It will be running Thursdays through Sundays from 29 September until 31 October.
