New museum includes immersive theatres, cinemas, and an innovation centre

Zaha Hadid Architects has announced the opening of the Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum in the city’s Guangming District.

The museum will collaborate with the region’s tech businesses, universities, schools and research centres to present Shenzhen as a global leader in the development of new technologies.

In a press release, Zaha Hadid Architects said the museum was designed as a “solid, spherical volume facing the city”.

The Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum houses 35,000 square metres of permanent and temporary exhibition halls and galleries, and 6,000 square metres of immersive theatres and cinemas.

It also contains 5,400 square metres of research laboratories, educational facilities, and an innovation centre.

Additionally, it offers 34,000 square metres of guest amenities, storage, and production and maintenance workshops.

As for sustainability, the museum’s design features combined with smart management networks operating high-efficiency systems serve to reduce the building’s energy consumption and emissions.

Recyclable materials were used in construction, while the museum‘s water management system implements grey-water recycling, in addition to the collection and storage of rainwater to reduce overall water consumption.

Photovoltaics have been installed for on-site energy generation.

In more news for Shenzhen, Merlin Entertainments recently provided a construction update for Legoland Shenzhen Resort.

The new destination in China will include a theme park, a Legoland water park, and three themed hotels.

Legoland Shenzhen is the first international IP-based family theme park resort in the Greater Bay Area.
