Downtown FabWorks Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum The Faceted, Lighted Wall

Downtown FabWorks, a leading provider of turnkey fabrication solutions for creative projects across the attractions industry, has partnered with Scenario Global to deliver new exhibits for the reopened Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.

The renovated museum was unveiled on 2 April and now provides an expansive and enhanced experience that combines historical narratives with cutting-edge design.

In this transformation, the museum gained 40,000 square feet of exhibition space, including an all-new mezzanine showcasing rare, never-before-seen racing artefacts, and a previously restricted lower level.

Craft, care, & community

Downtown FabWorks saw the fabrication project as a meaningful opportunity to share the tale of a national treasure.

Daniel Krall, Downtown FabWorks’ founder and president, says: “This museum celebrates decades of innovation and a community that connects over a shared passion for precision, craftsmanship, and rising to the challenge. We were honored to help bring that energy to life.”

The company’s contribution spans several key components across the museum. Each element is thoughtfully designed and installed to elevate immersion while supporting operations and visitor flow.

Notable features include:

  • A faceted, illuminated wall, which provides a dynamic backdrop that highlights historic race cars. This visual showstopper is also technically accomplished, engineered with curved acrylic, aluminium framing, and hidden lighting.
  • The Winner’s Gallery exhibit pairs sleek aluminium panelling with hidden LED strips to create a clean and versatile display area for some of Indy’s most iconic cars.
  • The Model Base exhibit, with a projection-mapped scale replica of the raceway, surrounded by interactive monitors. This key attraction encourages hands-on exploration of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s rich history.
  • A striking reception desk for the Welcome Center, made with structural steel, bespoke cladding, and glossy Quartz Corian. Automotive-inspired paint accents and integrated LED lighting honour the golden age of racing.

Other features, including a bespoke interactive pin map wall, a multimedia storytelling station, and complementary customer service and tech desks, deepen guest engagement while expressing the museum’s mission to preserve and celebrate motorsports culture through time.

Each component supplied by Downtown FabWorks offers a combination of artisan craft skill and technical problem-solving. The business collaborated with curators, designers, and engineers to create a visually stunning and engaging experience for both returning and new visitors.

Downtown FabWorks is delighted to contribute to this project and collaborate with a wider team that shares its values of craft, care, and community.

Recently, Downtown FabWorks relocated to a 40,000 square foot space in the vibrant Bywater neighbourhood of New Orleans, in a milestone expansion. With this move, the company can enhance operations, take on larger projects, and serve clients more effectively across the US.
