The company has been creating immersive environments across Canada for over 40 years and has established a reputation for habitats and experiences that combine realism with durability. Its portfolio ranges from iconic zoo environments to award-winning theme park attractions.
Rockscapes will now provide its services directly to zoos, aquariums, science centres, museums, and theme parks across the US from its new base in Detroit, Michigan.
Serving US zoos & aquariums
Established as a family-run business in 1984, Rockscapes has grown to become one of the most reputable brands in artificial rockwork and habitat design in North America. In addition to numerous aquariums and museums around Canada, its portfolio includes well-known projects like the Toronto Zoo and Calgary Zoo.
Sean Mangan, second-generation Rockscaper, says: “Zoos and aquariums in the US are investing heavily in the future of animal care, conservation, and visitor experience. With ROC USA, we can now serve those institutions directly, bringing the same craftsmanship, creativity, and reliability that have defined our work in Canada.”
ROC USA will uphold Rockscapes’ focus on pushing the limits of design and construction through key offerings, including immersive habitat design for zoos and aquariums; themed rockwork and water features for parks, museums, and science centres; thermal plastic structures for precision, modularity, and sustainability; and maintenance and restoration programmes for long-term exhibit care.
Rockscapes’ lightweight panel system, which weighs just 10 pounds per square foot, is essential to its innovative approach. When compared to typical shotcrete methods, this proprietary solution saves money, shortens installation times, and has a lower environmental footprint. The system, which includes large-format 3D printing technology and recyclable materials, demonstrates the company’s dedication to sustainability and efficiency.
‘Innovation, speed & artistry’
ROC USA is already engaged in conversations with a number of leading US zoos, and official project announcements are expected in the coming months. These projects will range from habitats for big cats, marine life, and aviaries, to themed water features and museum installations.
“Our mission is simple: create environments where animals thrive, guests connect, and institutions succeed. With ROC USA, we’re doubling down on North America—bringing innovation, speed, and artistry to projects that matter,” says Mangan.
From precision-printed coral reefs to gigantic artificial rock cliffs, ROC USA is positioned to set a new benchmark for immersive design in the US zoo and aquarium industry.
Attendees at the AZA Annual Conference can meet the team at booth #413.
Recently, Rockscapes announced the successful completion of its extensive artificial rockwork on AlpenFury, the record-breaking alpine-themed roller coaster at Canada’s Wonderland. Rockscapes was contracted to provide all artificial rock theming integrated into Wonder Mountain and the ride’s surroundings.
