Sesame Place will no longer operate as a year-round theme park

Sesame Place San Diego has announced it will transition to a seasonal schedule, with the theme park‘s final operating day for this year set for this weekend.

The SeaWorld-owned park, which will no longer be open year-round, will close on 21 September and welcome visitors again in spring 2026.

“In order to make every visit filled with more excitement, attractions, and activities to enjoy, Sesame Place will transition to a seasonal schedule,” the park said in a statement.

“By focusing on our most popular times of year, we can deliver the best possible experience from the moment guests arrive until the moment they leave.”

Sesame Place San Diego‘s new operating schedule means that its holiday events – The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular and A Very Furry Christmas – have been cancelled.

To honour current 2025 season pass holders, Sesame Place is offering SeaWorld Fun Cards, valid through the rest of this year.

The SeaWorld Fun Card provides unlimited admission to SeaWorld San Diego, and access to its Halloween and Christmas events.

As for Sesame Place employees, they will be reassigned to roles at SeaWorld during the park’s off-season, ABC 10News reports.

Sesame Place San Diego opened in 2022 as the second Sesame Place theme park in the US, after the first location in Philadelphia.

The 17-acre park is home to family rides, water attractions, live character shows, parades, and interactive experiences, like the Sesame Street Neighborhood.
