Shanghai Disneyland has started installing its first major Marvel attraction at its new Spider-Man-themed land.
The first vertical steel column has been put in place for the new “high-energy thrill coaster”, also the park’s first major Marvel-themed attraction, Shanghai Disney Resort said in a press release.
Construction of the Spider-Man-themed land started in May and is “progressing smoothly”, the resort added.
Shanghai Disneyland’s ninth themed land will include unique retail, dining and entertainment experiences that expand Spider-Man’s story.
The land is the park’s third major expansion since opening in June 2016, joining Toy Story Land, which opened in 2018, and the new Zootopia land, which debuted in late 2023.
In addition, Shanghai Disneyland recently announced an expansion of its iconic flying theatre attraction, Soaring Over the Horizon.
A third Disney-themed hotel, located adjacent to the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, is also currently under construction, as is a new residential community for the resort’s cast members.
Shanghai Disneyland’s new land is “one of the latest examples of the continuous development and expansion of Shanghai Disney Resort”, the resort said.
Joe Schott, the former president and general manager of Shanghai Disney and current president of Disney Signature Experiences, told blooloop: “I think over the last several years, we’ve developed a really strong emotional bond with our consumers in China by focusing on high-quality entertainment and telling our character stories throughout the year.”
blooloop also recently spoke to Michael Moriarty, managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland, about the resort’s expansion and evolution.
