The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is searching for an architect to design a £25m ($35.2m) collections centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

The project is part of the museum’s V&A East location in the Olympicopolis district. The collection, research and learning hub will be located inside the former Olympic Broadcasting Centre, which is being converted into a commercial development dubbed Here East. The winning firm will receive an estimated £1.75m ($2.5m) contract to draw up the plans.

According to a report from the Architects Journal (AJ), the V&A says it is looking for “a creative, analytical architect(s) to respond to our challenging brief to create a new Collection and Research Centre at Here East in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London”.

V&A Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Director Tim Reeve told the AJ: “At the V&A, we want our collection to inspire and empower the next generation of artists, designers and innovators. By making them a central part of our plans for the V&A East project, we hope to transform how they are accessed, and the impact and reach they can have.

“With initial agreements in place with Here East, we are now seeking an architect who can bring our vision for a world-class collection and research centre to life. We look forward to the architectural community’s response, and to moving the project forward once ministers give the green light.”

Between four and six teams are expected to be shortlisted for the commission. The deadline for applications is February 21 2018.

Last week, it was announced that the first V&A museum located outside of London, the V&A Dundee Museum of Design, will open in September.
