Garage Museum launches experimental online platform for digital artists

The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, Russia has launched a new experimental programme and online platform called Garage Digital, which will host works by digital artists.

Garage Digital will bring together artists, scientists, programmers and art historians. It aims to explore and support the visual culture that is emerging with advanced technology and new media.

According to a press release, the traditional museum has lost its monopoly as a place to store imagery, with smartphones and the internet providing access to content.

“The Garage Digital team, together with artists and experts, is redefining the role of cultural institutions and means of creating and exhibiting works of art,” said Anton Belov, director of the Garage Museum.

The online platform features artworks and research projects created for Garage Digital, as well as multimedia material on digital art and culture, and documentary videos.

Garage Digital will also have offline events at the museum and other locations, in order to build a community of digital and new technology artists.
