Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has announced the full opening of Les Ateliers Gaîté in Paris, a sustainable mixed-use redevelopment.
The project’s final phase, a 28,800-square-metre retail and lifestyle destination, has opened to the public. It joins residential properties, offices and a hotel on a 1.5-hectare site.
“Les Ateliers Gaîté demonstrates our commitment to partnering with cities on major regeneration projects that meet the changing needs of an urban society,” said Jean-Marie Tritant, CEO of URW.
He said the project is “a vibrant and people-centric mixed-use destination that makes a practical contribution to the lives of residents, workers and visitors in the Montparnasse neighbourhood”.

“We’ve thrown out the rulebook for shopping centres and invented a new mixed-use destination for all, going beyond retail to adapt to the local needs,” added Anne-Sophie Sancerre, URW’s chief operating officer for Southern Europe.
Designed by Winy Maas and his architecture and urban planning firm MVRDV, Les Ateliers Gaîté is home to 60 retail outlets, entertainment facilities and F&B venues. Public services include a health centre and library.
From November, it will feature a next-generation gaming attraction called Time Tripper. It also offers Food Society, a new food hall concept with 15 restaurants, two bars, a wine cellar and a gourmet shop.
Mixed-use redevelopment in Paris
The €500 million redevelopment was designed and built sustainably. The heating consumption of its buildings has been reduced by 40 percent. It also features a waste recycling area and a parking area with electric vehicle (EV) charging.
“From the design and construction phases to the opening, Les Ateliers Gaîté uses the best of URW’s innovation to serve urban regeneration with a responsible urban planning approach,” said Alexis Dubois, development director at URW.
Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield operates 80 shopping centres in 12 countries. These centres enjoy more than 800 million visits every year.
