Kings Island is launching the new ‘Sol Spin’ and ‘Cargo Loco’ rides in Adventure Port.

Kings Island in Mason, Ohio has announced a new themed area called ‘Adventure Port’, opening in 2023 with two new family-friendly rides and enhanced theming for the Adventure Express coaster.

The new rides for Adventure Port are ‘Sol Spin’ and ‘Cargo Loco’. The former is described in a news release as an “immense sun disk created by an ancient civilization”.

Visitors will board suspended vehicles and enjoy the sensation of flying through the air at 25 mph. Riders of ‘Cargo Loco’ will board shipping barrels and manually control their own speeds.

Enhanced theming for Adventure Express

“What I love about Adventure Port is that we’ve taken parts of the Adventure Express story and built upon it to create this new themed area,” said Mike Koontz, vice president and general manager of Kings Island.

“When guests who have been coming to the park for years visit this area for the first time, the story will feel familiar, but it will be told in a whole new way.”

The project’s design is being led by JRA, part of RWS Entertainment Group. Per the release, the storyline for Adventure Port is as follows:

“The myths of an ancient civilization, and its mighty city carved out of stone, have lured travelers from around the globe to this bustling port community for more than a century.

“Resting in the foothills of overgrown mountains and dense  tropical terrain, Adventure Port is a hub for explorers searching for an ancient civilization’s forbidden temple and mysterious wonders.

“If asked, the locals will tell tales of those who came before and vanished. Did they unwittingly  disturb ancient spirits and fall victim to an age-old curse?”

Kings Island, owned and operated by Cedar Fair, is home to more than 100 rides, shows and attractions. Opened in 1991, Adventure Express is a mine train coaster featuring speeds of up to 35 mph.
