Kings Dominion is located in Doswell, Virginia, while Carowinds can be found in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Two of Cedar Fair’s amusement parks, Kings Dominion and Carowinds, are starting year-round operations in 2023.

Kings Dominion, a 400-acre amusement park in Doswell, Virginia, said the scheduling change “adds additional weekends to the calendar in January, February and early March”.

“Kings Dominion will be the cure for cabin fever in 2023,” said Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager at the Cedar Fair property.

“We’ve always wanted find a way to extend our season to all 12 months, and now families and season passholders won’t have to wait until the spring for their favorite rides or their first taste of funnel cake.”

The park noted that weather conditions and scheduled maintenance will “limit the operation of some park attractions”.

Carowinds, a 400-acre amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina has also announced a transition to year-round operations with the release of its 2023 operating calendar.

“Expanding the Carowinds’ calendar to year-round operation will enhance the local tourism and travel industries, create jobs to support economic growth for the entire region, and reinforce the park’s commitment to the local community,” park officials said (via Spectrum News).

Carowinds is home to 60 world-class rides, a water park, live entertainment and special events. Kings Dominion also boasts 60 rides, including 12 roller coasters, and a 20-acre water park.

Both parks are operated by Cedar Fair, which recently reported record revenue of $1.37 billion through Labor Day (5 September 2022).

“Our record results reflect the successful strategic investments we have made over the past several years to expand our entertainment offerings and enhance the guest experience,” said Cedar Fair president and CEO Richard A. Zimmerman.

“Consumer demand for our parks and resort properties is very strong, and we are excited about the growth opportunities ahead of us for the remainder of the 2022 season and longer term.”
