Tate Liverpool has partnered with Art Explora to tour works from its ‘Radical Landscapes’ exhibition around the Liverpool city region as a mobile art gallery.
The 10-week initiative, which aims to make art more accessible, will visit locations in St Helens, Knowsley, Sefton, Wirral, Halton and Liverpool.
Speaking at the launch, Frédéric Jousset, founder of Art Explora, said (via ITV): “Despite the best efforts of all cultural institutions everywhere, there’s still a cultural divide between those who have interests in and access to arts and culture and those who are a bit left behind.
“Our mission is to try and bridge that gap.”
The Mobile Museum is a non-profit project supported by Art Explora, an international art foundation. It was founded by Ingrid Brochard and designed by matali crasset.
It includes a selection of works from ‘Radical Landscapes’, which was first exhibited at Tate Liverpool in summer 2022.
Helen Legg, the director of Tate Liverpool, said: “The Mobile Museum is a very unique environment and the whole point of it is that it goes directly into communities.
“We can meet people on their own turf, so to speak, and in so doing can remove traditional barriers to attendance at our museums.”

This is the first time that the Tate museum has toured works from its national collection directly to regional communities.
“I believe that the children will keep long-lasting memories of their experience on board and hopefully will bring their families later on,” added Jousset.
“It’s on the core belief that art makes us better people that I founded Art Explora three years back.
“I believe art and artists have the power to inspire and be catalysts for change.”
