Event Network, in collaboration with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, is pleased to unveil the newly-renovated Guggenheim Store in New York City.

Designed with a focus on sustainability, the goal of the remodel was to provide a unified guest experience while meeting the current and future needs of modern museum retail.

Optimal guest shopping experience

Remaining true to the original design of one of the most recognisable and architecturally iconic buildings in NYC was a top priority throughout the process. Great care was taken to maintain the historic legacy and integrity of Frank Lloyd Wright’s original design.

The terrazzo floor and ceiling were preserved, and elements of both were incorporated into the aesthetic of the rest of the store environment. Oak finishes that match the Frank Lloyd Wright-era stain and grain style inspired new custom-created fixtures designed to not only elegantly display product but also to hold back stock of best-selling items for easy replenishment on busy days.

These new custom fixtures represent the original style of the iconic gift store, while providing more flexibility to support an optimal guest shopping experience. The new store features reclaimed materials and highlights a variety of merchandise representing the Guggenheim collection with an intentional focus on product that is locally, ethically, and sustainably sourced. A curated assortment of in-store items are also available online.

Lobo Mau is just one example of sustainably and ethically sourced product available in the newly remodelled store. The company’s mission is to give people who care about the planet an alternative to fast fashion through their commitment to 100 percent zero-waste product development.

When approaching remodel projects such as this, protecting and reusing the existing infrastructure (where possible) is top of mind. During the renovation process, over 90 percent of materials that were removed from the space were recycled.

The existing lighting system was retrofitted with LED bulbs to reduce energy consumption. Eco-friendly shelf lighting was added to better showcase product and brighten the store. Windows were treated with a semi-transparent vinyl wrap to allow for visibility into and out of the space while protecting the aesthetic of the historic building.

Locally, ethically, and sustainably sourced

The newly renovated space also incorporates more natural light, embracing the intersectionality of nature and art.

Event Network is the leading operator of cultural attraction retail in the US.  Its singular focus on providing best-in-class retail solutions results in award-winning store designs and unique shopping environments like the new Guggenheim Store.
