New title for the ValoClimb attraction features player detection technology for enhanced team gameplay

Valo Motion, a pioneer in combining interactive technology with physical activities, has announced the launch of Short Circuit, a new experience for the acclaimed ValoClimb attraction.

Short Circuit is the 10th title to be developed for ValoClimb. In this interactive experience, up to four climbers work as a team to create electrical circuit graphics on the climbing wall. Their bodies are essential parts of these circuits.

Raine Kajastila, Valo Motion CEO says: “The Valo Motion team is proud that guests at locations with ValoClimb attractions around the world will soon have the opportunity to enjoy the unique Short Circuit experience with friends and family. We’ve never stopped innovating on ValoClimb since we first started shipping units in 2016. Short Circuit is the outcome of our ambition to push the boundary of technology to motivate people to move and have fun.”

Short Circuit makes use of Valo Motion’s groundbreaking player detection technology, which allows players to join or quit the game at any time without creating disruption or needing to restart.

The ValoClimb wall adapts automatically to additional participants, dynamically altering levels and challenges dependent on the number of players. Short Circuit has been developed to adjust to the player’s height, allowing children and adults to play together. All of this helps the players to work together – and win bonus points for great teamwork.

When developing new games, Valo Motion seeks to make every experience unique. Short Circuit reflects this commitment to innovative products and joins a diverse lineup of experiences available for ValoClimb.

Academic research

Kajastila developed the initial ValoClimb prototypes as early as 2013 while he was at university. The first retail demo units went live in 2015, and the following year, he assembled a team to launch Valo Motion.

With undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Media Technology, Valo Motion built on Kajastila’s post-doctoral research on augmented exercise and training applications to develop commercial products. ValoClimb combines his research with his experience as a rock climbing tutor.

The award-winning ValoClimb can be found in 67 countries around the world. The attraction converts a physical climbing wall into a real-life video game by combining motion tracking with projected graphics. It is suitable for trampoline parks, family entertainment centres, fitness and climbing gyms, outdoor playgrounds, hotels, resorts, and shopping centres.

Valo Motion recently released details of its innovative new multiplayer experience Stomp Squad for ValoJump. Stomp Squad follows the popular Super Stomp game, also on the ValoJump mixed-reality trampoline game platform.
