Shanghai Disney Resort has started building its third themed hotel. The accommodation will have 400 rooms and joins the 420-room Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and the 795-room Toy Story Hotel.
Located on the shores of the Wishing Star Lake, the upcoming hotel will offer views of Shanghai Disneyland. It will be home to indoor and outdoor amenities and programming, new dining, shopping and entertainment experiences, and immersive spaces showcasing Disney characters and stories.
Inspired by Art Nouveau architecture and design, the hotel will be “authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese”, according to a press release.
Shanghai Disney Resort is a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group. The hotel’s groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from both companies.
The Chinese resort is home to Shanghai Disneyland, the Disneytown shopping and dining district, two hotels and the Wishing Star Park.
Shanghai Disneyland is also expanding to offer an immersive Zootopia land, its eighth themed area and the first Zootopia zone at a Disney park.

“Since we announced the development of our new Zootopia-themed land earlier this year we have been overwhelmed by the excitement and anticipation expressed by fans from across China and around the world,” Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said in 2019.
In more news, the park is one of the first official trial sites in China for the country’s new ‘smart tourism’ initiative.
Participating tourist attractions have been tasked with developing interactive experiences using advanced technologies such as 5G, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI).
