RWS Global, a leading producer of live experiences, has collaborated with Six Flags Entertainment Corporation and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment to create a haunted house experience inspired by New Line Cinema’s The Conjuring.
The experience, which opened 8 September and is running until 31 October, promises to terrorise visitors at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Great Adventure.
Visitors must summon their courage to explore the Perron family’s isolated farmhouse, which is haunted by horrifying spirits inspired by New Line Cinema’s renowned film The Conjuring. These terrifying new haunts are part of Six Flags’ annual Fright Fest, which is celebrating 30 years of dread this season.
Creating true terror
Six Flags worked with Warner Bros. Discovery and RWS on all creative and production elements of The Conjuring, including scenic design based on the film, project management, creative direction, audio design, lighting design, scenic and prop build, costume design build, and scare actor casting.
The Conjuring haunted houses will take guests to visit the Perron family home in the early 1970s using a unique adaptive storytelling structure. Strange noises and odours, stopped clocks, banging doors, and beings hiding in dark corners are all part of the experience, but guests will be astonished by extra effects that make the haunted house even more horrifying. These details will not be released, to ensure that there are scary surprises in store for The Conjuring visitors.
Damien Gray, Sr. global creative director, RWS Global, comments: “I believe it’s critical to engage all five senses in experiences. By using touch, sight, smell, varying temperatures, and disorientation, we’re able to create the true psychological terror of what it might feel like to be in the throes of demonic possession.”
“From the moment guests enter The Conjuring haunted house they are immersed in the movie,” adds Six Flags chief marketing officer Edithann Ramey. “From artefacts and dĂ©cor to characters and even small details like black bird feathers on the floor or feet dangling above, The Conjuring is ever-present at each turn.”
Monica Miklas, senior manager, creative direction at RWS, says: “The RWS team is thrilled to be part of creating an all-new haunt experience inspired by a modern horror classic like The Conjuring. We want the audience to feel like they’ve stepped into the world of the film. They can expect lots of insider nods to the film’s most iconic elements – plus a couple of very big, very terrifying surprises.”
RWS Global recently announced that it has secured a minority investment from global private equity provider Bluestone Equity Partners.
