Katana, a marketing and entertainment firm focused on the Japanese theme park industry, has announced plans for a new immersive destination in Tokyo.
The theme park, called Immersive Fort Tokyo, will open in Tokyo’s Odaiba next spring. As per a report in the Japan Times, the 30,000-square-metre facility will house 12 immersive attractions, and six shops and restaurants.
It will be located on the second and third floors of the VenusFort shopping mall, which closed in March 2022.Â
Osaka-based Katana will operate the park. “We believe that theme parks really embody the meaning of live entertainment,” said Katana CEO Tsuyoshi Morioka.
Immersive attractions and retail
Morioka, who plans to utilise immersive entertainment in the new venue, added: “Simply put, we would like to update the theme park.”
“We hope to make Tokyo the leading city of entertainment,” Morioka said. The park “will be providing various brands familiar to both domestic and foreign people”, he added.
Morioka is known for reversing declining attendance at Universal Studios Japan in 2010. Not long after joining the park, he started working on plans to introduce a Wizarding World of Harry Potter land.
In addition to Immersive Fort Tokyo, Katana is leading a plan to open a theme park on Okinawa’s main island in 2025.
New experiences in Japan
