Intamin enhances Hot Racer for Walibi Rhône-Alpes

“Mahuka” single-rail roller coaster delivers maximum thrills on a small footprint and features comfortable, custom-themed trains

Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, is celebrating the opening of “Mahuka”, its new Hot Racer roller-coaster at Walibi Rhône-Alpes in France.

Mahuka, which translates as “escape” in Hawaiian, takes riders on a journey to a remote island in the South Pacific. Here, they will enter an abandoned temple dedicated to the God of Fire.

“But be careful not to set off the God’s sacred fire, or you will become a temple prisoner!” warns a spokesperson from Intamin. “Escape the site, face your worries, and prepare yourself for an incredible trip filled with experiences you won’t want to miss!”

Evolution of the Hot Racer

Intamin’s Hot Racer is a cutting-edge single-rail roller coaster model that delivers maximum thrills with a small footprint. With its slim trains and track design, the Hot Racer provides unrivalled layout flexibility, enabling thrilling features to be used within a compact design.

Mahuka features two launches and seatings positioned near the track for an immersive high-speed experience. The layout includes exhilarating design elements throughout, with three inversions, 13 airtimes, and a top speed of 67 km/h (42 mph).

Compared to other track designs, the “backboned” track design requires fewer columns and improves the ride’s visuals with its already-iconic double top hat.

Its attractive, customised trains offer visitors an excellent level of comfort and freedom thanks to Intamin’s popular LSM seat design. This is regarded as one of the most comfortable coaster seats available. New padding was also added to the seats to cater for riders from 120 cm (4 feet).

In addition to offering riders maximum comfort and an enjoyable sense of openness, the in-line seating arrangement and lack of over-the-shoulder restraints enable speedy boarding and disembarking. The ride has a capacity of 600 people per hour, with two trains which each accommodate nine passengers.

The new Hot Racer builds on the previous model at Luna Park in Australia and boasts major upgrades. The chassis was considerably revised to improve passenger comfort and create an even better fit to the track. The brand-new carbon fibre lap bars also contribute to a lighter train and lower centre of gravity, resulting in an even smoother ride.

A spokesperson from Intamin says: “Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a casual visitor, Mahuka promises an experience that will leave you breathless and craving more. Visit Walibi Rhone-Alpes and see why Mahuka is the the next step in single-rail roller coaster design!”

Intamin recently celebrated the launch of “Swingi”, the new Gyro Swing at Linnanmäki in Finland, which opened on 30 April 2024. The park also features the Intamin LSM Multi-Launch Coaster, “Taiga”, which opened in 2019.
