Puy du Fou to create “new British cultural and historical attraction

Puy du Fou is set to begin a period of public engagement for its planned £300 million UK theme park in Cherwell near Bicester.

Last year, Puy du Fou started looking for its first UK site within a 40-mile radius of Oxford. Now, the company plans to build the new attraction in Cherwell, north of Bicester, by the M40.

Puy du Fou has launched a website for its UK park, and is holding consultation events this month in Bicester and Oxford. They are as follows:

Bicester: Weyland Hall – 18 July, 12pm to 7pm

Oxford: Wesley Memorial Church – 19 July, 12pm to 6pm

At the events, guests can meet the team behind the project, learn more about the plans and provide feedback. Towards the end of this year, there will be another round of public engagement.

Puy du Fou has created a unique artistic concept in the entertainment industry. Instead of coasters and rides, its theme parks offer spectacular shows, immersive experiences and period villages.

For its UK park, Puy du Fou “wants to create a new British cultural and historical attraction”.

Its vision: “A British Puy du Fou will be a place where visitors can walk in a beautiful wooded park with stunning landscaped gardens, where they can immerse themselves in British history with carefully curated period villages; and where they can experience a series of world-class live shows based on the country’s history, which will amaze the whole family.

”We want to deliver an exemplar in sustainable development, benefiting the local economy and environment.”

Puy du Fou’s new website for the UK park includes information on the site’s heritage, archaeology, landscape and ecology. It also contains details on local benefits and transport.

Currently, Puy du Fou has two permanent locations – in Les Epesses in the Pays de la Loire region of western France and Toledo, Spain.

In May, Puy du Fou opened its first attraction in China, called Saga City of Light. In addition, the group is creating a new show about Cherokee history in Sevier County, Tennessee – its first entry into the US market.
