Disney will have a total of 13 cruise ships

Disney Cruise Line has announced four new ships at this year’s D23, Disney’s fan event. The new cruise ships will join the fleet between 2027 and 2031.

Currently, there are five ships in the Disney fleet, with four others already being developed. The four additional ships teased at D23 will bring the fleet to a total of 13.

Disney said the ship names, designs and itineraries are still in development. However, it has confirmed the signature production for the new Disney Destiny will be themed to Hercules (1997).

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s theme parks and experiences division, also shared new details about the Disney Treasure, which includes a Moana stage production.

“Te Kā will appear onstage as a 15-foot-tall puppet – the largest we’ve ever produced for a Disney Cruise Line show,” he said. “I’ve had a chance to see this in person, and it is stunning.”

Disney is working on a multi-year expansion of its cruise line fleet, which includes the Destiny and Treasure, the Disney Adventure, and a new ship to sail from Japan.

“At Disney Experiences, Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places,” said D’Amaro at D23.

“And we have Imagineers in place right now all around the world because everything we’re going to share with you is in active development. Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving. I just want to be clear about this: we are doing everything you’re going to hear tonight.”

Also at D23, Disney has announced new lands and attractions based on villains, Monsters, Inc.Encanto and Indiana Jones for Walt Disney World in Florida.

Magic Kingdom will house the villains land, while Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting the Monsters, Inc. land. Encanto and Indiana Jones are part of the new Tropical Americas land at Animal Kingdom.
