New park to offer six themed lands inspired by IPs like Shrek and Minions

Universal Destinations & Experiences has unveiled the themed lands for its new family-friendly theme park in Frisco, Texas.

Opening in 2026, Universal Kids Resort is a unique resort designed and developed for families with young children.

The park will feature lands inspired by DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek, Puss in Boots, Trolls and Gabby’s Dollhouse; Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants; Illumination’s Minions, and Jurassic World.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to bring these iconic stories to life for kids and families to experience, interact with and play together,” said Sarah Gibbon, VP and executive producer at Universal Creative.

“At each point, we considered how we could design a place especially for kids where they could explore, imagine and adventure with their families and friends.

“They’ll be able to do all this while being fully immersed in some of their favorite stories – ones full of curiosity, laughter and joy.”

In the Shrek-themed land, guests will discover a swamp-style playground built personally by the ogre.

Trolls and SpongeBob in new park

At the SpongeBob SquarePants-themed land, visitors will get to explore a neighbourhood under the sea.

The Minions land will offer “water-soaked fun”, Universal said, while Jurassic World will merge dinosaurs and interactive experiences.

The Trolls land is described as an “awesome music festival”, and the Puss in Boots-themed zone will house games, rides and festive food.

The central hub of Universal Kids Resort will provide lawns and play areas, as well as an immersive retail experience featuring characters from Gabby’s Dollhouse.

Additionally, the resort will include a 300-room hotel that serves as the entrance to the theme park.

“At Universal Kids Resort, children will have the opportunity to play, sing, dance and discover with some of their favorite characters,” said Dan Cuffe, VP and general manager of Universal Kids Resort.

“Beyond the highly-engaging attractions and shows, families will find ample areas to rest and also enjoy themed food and beverages and shop for fun character souvenirs.

“Each of these areas elicit wonder with a lush, colorful environment.”

Universal Kids Resort to open in 2026

As well as Universal Kids Resort, Universal Destinations & Experiences is expanding its LBE portfolio to offer Epic Universe in Orlando, a year-round horror experience in Las Vegas, and potentially a new theme park in the UK.
