The Beak and Barrel is set to open later this year

Walt Disney World has unveiled the new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern coming to Magic Kingdom later this year.

Located in Adventureland across from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, the Beak and Barrel is a lively pirate pub for “swashbucklers, scoundrels, bandits and buccaneers of all ages from every corner of the seven seas”, Disney said in a blog post.

In Disney’s backstory for the tavern, it was established by a new character called Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn and her first mate, a parrot named Rummy.

Rummy serves as the tavern’s quartermaster and keeps an eye on the venue from his roost atop the bar.

He bears a resemblance to the original Barker Bird that once sat at the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean but “flew the coop some time ago”, Disney said.

The largest space at the new tavern was once the mess hall for Spanish soldiers and contains long tables for pirates to gather around and tell their tales.

“Guests may also spot the Enchanted Rum Bottle, which was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma and seemingly serves as the source of the tavern’s specialty brews, or Rummy hobbling along the bar’s ledge, greeting the patrons and keeping a close eye on the crew while Merry is away,” said Disney.

Inside the Captains’ Quarters, once the living quarters of the Spanish commander, guests will see fine artwork and drapery damaged by “slashing blades or burn marks… by rambunctious pirates“.

Above the fireplace in this space are five miniature ships in glass bottles that will come alive and “engage in a fearsome battle”.

Also coming to Magic Kingdom is a whole new land dedicated to Disney’s villains, as well as two Cars attractions in a reimagined area of Frontierland.
